Proud Mary

“…a cross between the Stones, Neil Young and The Band. It’s a lesson in songwriting.” – Noel Gallagher
“…classic rock songwriting, delivered with inimitable, timeless bad-boy swagger.” – The Guardian
Manchester’s Proud Mary comes from the angst and sourness of those working class bands before them – The Smiths, James, Oasis, and The Stones Roses, and define a romance, like their counterparts did, with music.
Formed in 1999 and taking their name from the familiar Creedence Clearwater Revival song without really wanting to take over the world like some of their peers. The five-piece, comprised of singer Greg Griffin (lead vocal’s and guitar), Paul Newsome (vocal’s, guitar), Nathan Birkett (Bass), Tony Auton (guitar), and Richard Stuverud (drums), simply aimed to make decent rock & roll with the passion of rhythm & blues, the diversity of space rock, and with simplicity of mid-’60s pop music.
Oasis’ Noel Gallagher took to their strict dose of blues rock music, and made them his first signing to his Sour Mash label. ‘Very Best Friend’ marked their debut single in April 2001, and a full-length studio album entitled The Same Old Blues followed in June the same year
They caught national appeal within the U.K. with Top Ten hit record ‘The Same Old Blues’ before playing various shows across England during summer 2001 and for the next few years touring with, Oasis , Ocean Colour Scene, The Black Crowes, Paul Weller, Neil Young, Ryan Adams and Stereophonics’ successful festival gigs at A Day at the Races in Donington, England, and Cardiff, Wales.
