Matches up virtuoso playing with winning songwriting – Morning Star
After last year’s traditional Irish offering ‘O’Neill’s Tunes’, Dan returns with an album of brand new songs and tunes with a heavy nod to the American end of his output this time. There are plenty of hints of bluegrass, Americana and even a bit of swing this time with echoes of bands like Nickel Creek or The Duhks. The songs touch on a few subjects including the decline of town centres, the importance of live music, grief, people watching and the need to break away from a stale situation! Then there’s some rip roaring tunes and a few surprises too. As well as Dan’s trademark banjo, there’s some touches of fiddle, mandolin, guitar and double bass from an extremely talented band of musicians.
